PowerSchool is one of the district's technology tools that will help us continue to move forward to meet the district's 2020 Vision and a high quality school in every neighborhood through the ability for both students and parents to monitor student performance when the PowerSchool Parent and Student Portal is activated at the school site.  Through the use of PowerTeacher, the PowerTeacher Gradebook, and the PowerSchool Parent and Student portal, information is updated readily so that both teachers, parents, and students are able to be access information via computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Step 1:  Activate Pearson PowerSource Account

In your district email you should have received an email titled "PowerSource Account Confirmation."  If you have not done so already, please locate the email and activate your account by clicking on the link in the email under the "Activate your Account" section. 
**Please Note: If the Activation email is unable to be located, please check the Junk Email Folder as sometimes it may be there or use the Forgot Password information below to have the activation resent.

Step 2:  Login to the Pearson PowerSource Online Training Web Site

Should you have questions regarding Pearson PowerSource web site, please contact the ITSS Help Desk at 619-209-HELP (4357).

Forgot your password?

You may request a new password at any time by using the Forgot Your Password link on the PowerSource login screen. After clicking Forgot Your Password on the PowerSource login screen, simply enter your email address and submit. PowerSource will then email you a new randomly-generated password.

Step 3:  Accessing PowerSchool Trainings

We have customized PowerSchool training to meet the needs of San Diego Unified and have selected specific course offerings that meet the needs of both Elementary and Secondary teachers.  Below you will find the content specific to Elementary and Secondary teachers.  It is recommended that these courses are completed prior to the implementation of PowerSchool.  The district will be going live with PowerSchool beginning the 2013-2014 school year.  Note:  Please access the training on the PowerSource site, using a Firefox Web Browser.
 

Elementary

    • Note: Even if teacher uses gradebook for digital record keeping, the assignment grades will not automatically calculate the final grade for the Elementary Progress Report Card Final Grade Entry.  Final Grade Entry will be done in a similar manner to what has been done in the past with Zangle.  As we move to Common Core for the 2014-2015 school year however, that may change.

There have been many great questions regarding the grade book in PowerSchool.  Please see below for some pertinent information to frequently asked questions:

Gradebook Will Not Open:

If the grade book will not open please follow these steps.
 
Step 1:  Please make sure to use the Firefox web browser when using PowerSchool.  Please make sure when opening the grade book, to click on the icon pictured below.  If the grade book still does not open, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2:  The grade book runs using Java on the computer.  We will make sure PowerSchool is allowed to save the grade book file to the computer by setting these settings:
 
A.  Click on the Windows icon in the bottom right of the screen.

B.  Locate and click on the Control Panel in the right hand column.

C.  Locate the Java Control Panel with the picture of the icon below and click to open it.

D.   Click on the General Tab and then click on Settings.

E.  Click the check box to the left of "Keep temporary files on my computer."  Then, click the OK button at bottom right.

F.  On the next screen, pictured below, click the OK button on bottom right.

G.  Restart the Computer and try accessing the grade book again.  If, after restarting the computer, the grade book is still not able to be accessed, then please proceed to Step 3 below.
 
Step 3:  Update the Firefox web browser and Java to the supported version for PowerSchool.  To do so, please see this Job Aid (tutorial) and Update the SDUSD Web Application Compatibility Pack.
 
Once you have gone through the steps above, if the issue still persists, please contact the ITSS Help Desk at 619-209-HELP (4357) with the Teacher Name, Teacher ID, and School Name.
 

Classes or Students Not Showing Up in the Grade book:

 
When accessing the PowerSchool Grade book,  if classes or students are not showing up, please check the following:
 
In the upper left corner, under the word "Classes," select the appropriate term from the drop down list. If the students do not show after doing the following, please contact the ITSS Help Desk at 619-209-HELP (4357) with the Teacher Name, Teacher ID, and School Name.

Gradebook Supports for Mac OSX (version 10.9) Mavericks

Please see the following tips for opening the PowerSchool Gradebook in Mac OSX Mavericks.
If the gradebook file does not open automatically and/or receives the error message "launchGradeBook.jnlp can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer", please use the following tips:
 
Step 1:  In the Firefox Web Browser downloads window, click the magnifying class on the far right (circled in red).  Then, select Show in Finder (circled in red).
