3/1 - Important information regarding text messaging feature in SchoolMessenger - Please share with appropriate staff

Principals:

It has recently come to my attention that there is a limitation to the way that we use the text message feature in SchoolMessenger.

The text messaging feature can only be used to communicate with individuals whose numbers are imported nightly into SchoolMessenger from PeopleSoft or PowerSchool. No custom lists that include cell phones can be uploaded to the system and used for texting. I know that many of you try this approach for your staff, as many employees do not want to put their cell phone numbers in PeopleSoft. Unfortunately, using this approach (a custom list) will only work for phone calls and emails, but not for text messaging.

The reason for this is that in order to receive text messages from SchoolMessenger, you must opt-in. The company has put safeguards in place to ensure opting-in occurs. We are unable to bypass this safeguard. The only way to use the text message feature is to make sure that your staff and parents have their cell phone listed in PeopleSoft as their mobile number.

Please share with appropriate staff.
