Legal Services


Legal Services provides objective, timely legal advice to the Board of Education, the Superintendent, District administration, including central office and site administrators, committees, and other District staff.

The areas of advice, counsel and assistance we provide include, but are not limited to, the following:

General Public Agency Issues

  • Conflict of interest laws and the Fair Political Practices Act
  • Preparation, review and revision of District policies and Administrative Procedures
  • Election issues and filling of governing board vacancies
  • The Ralph M. Brown Act
  • The California Public Records Act
  • The California Tort Claims Act
  • Charter Schools and all issues arising out of charter school petitions, operations, renewals and appeals
  • Implementation of the requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB
