What Parents Can Do to Help Their Child

Parent Suggestions for Student Achievement and Success

  1. Contact Shirley Lemmon, 578-1400, ext. 2235 to sign up for Parent Connect to check your child’s grades, attendance and behavior.
  2. Ask your child specific questions about school.  Ask him/her to show you his/her completed assignments if he/she claims to be finished with homework.
  3. Look at and check your child’s Student Planner and monitor homework assignments daily.
  4. Encourage your child’s involvement in school activities.
  5. Attend Fall and Spring Open House.
  6. Attend Fall Shadow a Student Day.
  7. Read the class syllabus from each of your child’s classes.  Save for future use.  Go to the Wangenheim website and click on "Favorites," then on "Staff Directory."
  8. Read the Wangenheim PTSA Newsletter.
  9. Look at the Wangenheim website (http://www.sandi.net/wangenheim) for general and specific classroom information provided on individual teachers’ websites.
  10. Contact your child’s teachers via email and voicemail (see attached lists).
  11. Ask your child for his/her 6-week progress reports and semester report cards.
  12. Encourage your student to attend tutoring.
  13. Encourage your child to attend the Homework Lab to get homework help on Tuesday from 2:20 – 3:20pm in room 901.
  14. Encourage your child to attend the computer math lab, grades 6 - 8, Monday - Friday from 2:20 – 3:50.
  15. Conference with the teachers.

  17. Schedule conference with counselors.
  18. Check school events calendar on website.
  19. Sign up for the ‘Prime Time’ after school child care.
