Attendance & Absences

Students are expected to be at school every day and on time. The tardy bell rings at 9:05 AM. Students arriving after 9:05 AM must report to the attendance clerk in the school office for an admit slip to class. If your child is absent for ANY reason, the office must be notified (prior to absence if possible).

Excused absence- illness, family medical emergency, medical/dental appointment, religious holiday, court

Unexcused absence-any other reason (missing bus, car trouble, oversleeping)

Truant- More than 3 unexcused absences

Contracts

If you know your child will be absent for 5 or more days for a reason other than illness, please come to the office at least 3 days before the absence to get a Contract for Independent Study. This allows your child to keep up with his/her classwork and is considered by the school district as excused. Contracts for 5 days or more mean the school district does not lose state funding because of the absences.

Disaster Preparedness

We have developed a Disaster Preparedness Plan and practice drills are held throughout the school year. In the event of a real disaster, you may pick up your child by coming to Gate #4 in the front of the school. PLEASE BE CERTAIN THAT ACCURATE AND COMPLETE EMERGENCY INFORMATION FOR YOUR CHILD IS GIVEN TO THE SCHOOL AND THAT THE OFFICE IS NOTIFIED PROMPTLY OF ANY CHANGES.

Early Release from School

Students are required to remain on the school grounds during school hours. Chidren may be released during the school day to parents, guardians, or other authorized persons only, however identification is necessary. It is important that you come to the office and sign your child out of school. Please try to call our office ahead of time so that your child can be ready when you arrive.

Teachers will explain the classroom homework policy to their students the first week of school and send home a written copy of the policy to the parents.

Lost and Found

"Lost and Found" for large articles is located in the lunch court area by the Nurse's office door. Please mark all outer clothing (coats, seaters, rainwear) with your child's name. Lunch boxes should also be clearly labeled. Small items such as watches, jewelry, glasses, etc. are kept in the school office. The 6 to 6 program also has a "Lost and Found" in the auditorium area. Traffic and Safety

Traffic and the safety of our students are very important. Please use caution when transporting your child to and from school. The cul-de-sac on Cliffridge gets quite congested during the morning and afternoon drop-off and pick-up times. Please adhere to the following:

-Please do not leave your car unattended if stopping in front of the school. This area is for immediate drop-off and pick-up only.

- Use the school parting lot, located at the end of Cliffridge Avenue if you need to walk your child to class. You may park in any spot that has not been marked for district employees.

- Please instruct your child to use the sidewalk operated by the school's safety patrol.

Zero Tolerance

San Diego City Schools has adopted a zero tolerance policy for weapons. This policy includes a mandatory suspension and/or expulsion for students K-12. Please bear in mind that Boy Scout knives and slingshots are considered to be weapons under this policy. Toy guns, party poppers, caps (small explosives) can and will result in suspension. District policy requires the suspension of students for offenses involving weapons, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, physical violence and any form of harassment.
