Cyclist Visits Montgomery
On May 27, cyclist Tony Cruz made a special trip to Montgomery Middle School to talk to students about life as a professional cyclist. Tony is currently a member of the US Postal Cycling Team and was a member of the US Olympic Team in 2000. Tony described what it is like to represent the country in the Olympics and spent time answering questions regarding bike racing.
Proposition MM Ribbon-cuttings are Focus of Spring Open Houses

Several schools have held ribbon-cutting ceremonies to dedicate their Proposition MM libraries:

Students of Mann Middle School dedicated their new library during a community-wide open house. The Color Guard kicked off the ceremony. Then guests were treated to tours and refreshments.

At Montgomery Middle School, guests were treated to a band concert and picnic dinner.

At Longfellow Elementary School, known for its Spanish language program, students performed part of the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Spanish. They recited the Pledge in Spanish and led skits featuring Frida Kahlo and other respected Latino artists.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Jackson Elementary's library, the "6-to-6" students performed a rap called "I like to read." Students escorted guests to the new library and led tours that featured the new computers, book categories and research areas.

The mission of San Diego City Schools is to improve student achievement by supporting teaching and learning in the classroom.
