Mathematics Professional Development Experience: Teaching Algebra
If you are a teacher or curriculum specialist, you are probably aware of the strategies and learning activities being used in the classrooms at your site, but how about in classrooms on the other side of the world? Classroom observation is a powerful professional development activity, yet many teachers face time constraints that make observations difficult. An online course, based on TIMSS Video Study research, makes available a virtual tour of classrooms from countries known for high student achievement in mathematics. The 10-hour online course can be completed at your own pace by September 17, and a certificate of completion will be awarded. The Intel Foundation has underwritten the development costs of the course so that it is free for San Diego teachers. If you are interested in participating in this professional development opportunity, please contact Georgana Winters at (619) 725-7304 or gwinters@sandi.net by August 1.
