Roosevelt
Jr. High student Keishawn Cosby is being hailed as a hero
by his bus driver, Jesus Peralta, for his instrumental
role in a medical emergency. Keishawn, a special needs student,
noticed that a fellow student, De'Ante Shelly, was choking on
a large jawbreaker. Keishawn rushed up to the front of the bus
to tell the driver and get his help. Jesus then stopped the
bus and performed the Heimlich maneuver on De'Ante. Jesus is

A team
of students from La Jolla High School has won first place
in the 2003 Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association
(NSTA) ExploraVision Awards competition. The competition
challenges K-12 students to create the future by proposing scientifically
valid technologies that could exist 20 years from now. An independent
panel of scientists, engineers and science education leaders
selected Harish Khandrika, Ryan Keane and Alexanda
Kritchevsky's project, Creating Individual Chronobiology
Profiles Using a Multisensor Chronobiometer, from almost 5,000
entries submitted by students from across the United States
and Canada. The students will receive their award at the ExploraVision
