Several
district teachers have been honored in the 2nd Annual Innovative
Video in Education (iVie) Awards. They include Holmes
Elementary teacher Brandie Woodfill, whose 4th grade class
won the Animation Category; Crawford High teacher Wayne Rosenberger,
who won a Special Achievement Award; and Lewis Middle School
teacher Steve Douglas, who won the teacher's category. A
nomination in the agriculture category was awarded to Knox
Elementary's Samantha Del Monaco and Beverly Livingston's
classrooms as well. Of the 133 county-wide schools, 21 were
from 10 San Diego City Schools. Each entry to the iVie awards
had to address at least one California academic content standard.
Judging was based on how well the entry addressed the chosen
content standard(s) as well as its technical merits. A judging
rubric was developed to assist the panel of judges in determining
the score in each category. To make videos, teachers and students
learn the art and science of taking a story from an initial
idea through the development of a storyboard and script, to
filming, editing and producing. These skills involve reading,
writing, speaking and listening, along with using a computer,
the Internet, and video from a variety of sources. To learn
more about the iVie awards, go to their web site http://www.ivieawards.org. |
