APIA Heritage Festival
On May 8-9, the San Diego Alliance for Asian Pacific Islander Americans, Inc. is hosting a Heritage Festival at Balboa Park (at President's Way and Park Blvd.) to celebrate the cultures of China, Guam, India, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Philippines, Samoa, Tonga, Vietnam, and others. Applause 2004! Fundraiser
The third annual Applause 2004! A Celebration of Student Expression fundraiser will be held on June 2 at 6 p.m. This year's event will be held in a gallery setting, and will exhibit and auction off student artwork. APSARA Cambodian Dance Performance
On Saturday, May 8, a special 5th anniversary perfomance of APSARA, a Cambodian dance group, will be taking place at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre for the Performing Arts (6611 University Avenue, San Diego). Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Border Voices Poetry Fair
Performances by "Alaska's fiddlin' poet" and best-selling Latina author Sandra Cisneros, as well as poems and art by students from around San Diego County, will be among the highlights of the 11th Annual Border Voices Poetry Fair this Saturday, April 24 at San Diego State University's (SDSU) Aztec Center. The fair, presented by The San Diego Union-Tribune and SDSU, is free and open to the public. This year's theme is "Doorways to Vision." Cesar Chavez Celebration
An awards dinner will be held in honor of Cesar Chavez on May 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Awards will be granted to several members of the community, and the keynote speaker will be Luis Natividad. Presale tickets will be available for $15.00 until Saturday, May 1. Tickets will NOT be available at the door. For more information please contact the Tubman/Chavez Center at (619) 326-5890. Community of Colors
The 19th Annual Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair and Parade will be taking place this Saturday, April 24 at Linda Vista Road (between Comstock and Ulric) at 10 a.m. There will also be an opening ceremony, entertainment, booths, and games starting at noon. Fiesta Educativa: A Bilingual Special Education Conference
Spanish-speaking and bilingual parents, educators and professionals who work with children with special needs are invited to the 8th annual Fiesta Educativa conference, "Parents and Professionals Collaborating for the Education of Our Children." This bilingual conference, presented in Spanish with English interpretation, will take place this Saturday, April 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Academy Charter School (2850 Logan Ave., 92113). Let the Groundbreaking Begin!
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Herbert Ibarra Elementary School in City Heights has been set for Tuesday, May 4, at 11 a.m. This is the second of five Proposition MM new school groundbreaking ceremonies to be held in 2004. Official invitations to the ceremony will be sent in mid-April to all appropriate officials, guests and community members. Mandatory Section 504 Training for Principals and Vice Principals
Training on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 will be offered to principals and vice principals immediately following the Secondary and Elementary Principals' Half Day Conferences on April 27 and 29. In compliance with the statute, this training is mandatory for new principals and new vice principals who have not previously attended, and for all principals and vice principals who have not attended within the past two years. The training will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Marina Village Conference Center (1936 Quivera Way, San Diego), on April 27 in the Marine Room and on April 29 in Room E5. NAEYC Annual Conference for Early Childhood Educators
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) will host a conference and expo for early childhood educators from November 10-13, 2004 in Anaheim. This unique professional development opportunity offers all early childhood professionals working with children from birth through third grade a chance to learn about the latest research and teaching strategies at hundreds of sessions and seminars. Statewide Leadership Conference on Family, School and Community Partnerships
