The 15th annual "Hats Off To Teachers" awards program, sponsored by the San Diego County Office of Education, is still accepting nominations through Friday, March 28. The program recognizes outstanding teachers throughout the county. Anyone can nominate an outstanding teacher. A teacher committee reviews all applications and selects frou winners. The awards, consisting of a "Hats Off To Teachers" commemorative plaque, are presented to winning teachers at a school assembly or school board meeting. Employability Counseling Services is hosting its Spring Resource Faire on Thursday, April 3, from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Center in Mission Valley. Students, parents and staff involved in Special Education are invited to attend. The event will bring together employers, job training program corodinators, community college representatives and a host of other San Diego-based businesses and community agency representatives. Transportation is available for students to and from the Faire, but seating is limited. Free dental sealants will be offered to children aged 6-18 years with no dental resources, a value of up to $320.00 per child. Dental sealants are a special coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth. They "seal" out bacteria and food and help protect teeth. The sealants will be offered Saturday, May 3, from 9 am. until 2 p.m. at the SDSU & Southwestern College Higher Education Center, 701 National City Blvd. in National City. To make an appointment, call (619) 692-8858. A parent or guardian must accompany each child and priority will be given to families who make an appointment.
The Junior Recorder Festival will be Wednesday, May 7, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Crill Hall, Point Loma Nazarene University. The event will feature period recorder and dance instruction with an informal dance performance at 11:30 a.m.
The All-District Secondary Instrumental Honor Concert will be Tuesday, May 20, 7:30 p.m., at the San Diego Civic Theater. The evening will feature the Middle School Honor Band, the Secondary Honor Orchestra and the High School Honor Band.
