San Diego Union-Tribune Race for Literacy
One of the highlights of the school year, the Union-Tribune Race for Literacy Weekend, will be held on May 1 and 2, 2004. Last year over 7,000 children, parents and teachers took part in the "Kids' Magic Mile" in Balboa Park (taking place this year on May 1st.) The kids ran, played, ate and listened to celebrity readers before going home with an official race T-shirt, a new book and a "gold" medal, hung proudly around their necks. On the following day, over 5,000 walkers and runners, including many school teams, had the unique opportunity to run down Highway 163 from Balboa Park to downtown San Diego in the "Race for Literacy 8K." The 8K will take place this year on Sunday, May 2. If you missed it last year, don't miss it again! Contact In Motion, Inc. at (760) 692-2900 or teams@inmotionevents.com to get involved this year.
