Student Salutes

  • Three San Diego High School students were part of a team of artists involved the creation of a mural as part of the recent Super Bowl activities in San Diego. Salud Melchor, Andrew Fernandez and Jesus Villa worked with Tijuana muralist Norma Michel on a 6' by 18' mural depicting community, education and unity. The mural project was organized by the Centro Cultural de la Raza and the NFL's Latino Leadership project. The students worked alongside Michel and three other student muralists from San Diego City College. The mural, titled "The Spiritual Power of Community Building", depicts the students' interpretation of how we need to know our past to understand the present and be able to prepare for the future.

  • Kennedy Elementary student Jourdon Ward was recently selected by the NBA to be one of only 10 students internationally to participate in Jr. NBA activities in Atlanta during All-Star Weekend.
