Dr. Grier received a warm welcome at the January 19 Board meeting. He and his wife Nancy mingled with employees, students and community members, sharing their excitement about being in San Diego.

“I’m deeply committed to all children learning,” Grier said. “I’m looking forward to working together to make great things happen in San Diego.”

Dr. Grier has served as superintendent in seven districts across the country since 1984. He began his career in 1972 as a high school science teacher and moved up to high school principal, associate superintendent and college adjunct professor. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from East Carolina University and his doctorate in education from Vanderbilt University. See his biography for more information.

He is scheduled to begin work no later than July 1, 2008.
