Our Schools As Jewels
Wilson Middle School Sparkles After Hands On Help
Wilson Middle School received a $35,000 extreme makeover as part of Volunteer San Diego’s annual Hands On San Diego event. Wilson was one of seven school projects nationwide selected to be a part of Hands On Schools 2007, an innovative new program aimed at reestablishing schools as the focal points of communities. Rain showers did not dampen the spirits of the volunteers who worked on the campus transformation. Hundreds of helpful hands painted buildings, added colorful murals, planted new landscape, beautified the field areas and created inspirational quotes during the two-day project.

“It was an incredibly moving experience to see hundreds of volunteers come out to work on our school in the rain,” said Wilson Principal Bernadette Nguyen. “It was an overwhelming sense that there are many, many giving people in our community. They inspired my whole school community by their act of generosity.”
