Schools As Jewels

Energy Star Herbert Ibarra Elementary School is one of 15 new energy-efficient schools built, or being built, to outperform California’s tough energy standards by 30 percent. The Proposition MM team is working closely with SDG&E’s Savings by Design program to design new schools that will save about $40,000 per year, per school in utility costs, as well as earn the district about $50,000 per school in incentive rebates.

These efforts have earned the prestigious Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) designation for Ibarra and Cherokee Point elementary schools. SDUSD is one of the few districts in the state to achieve this designation.
