San Diego City Schools has seven outstanding students among the 16 recipients of Chargers Champions Student Scholarships for 2006. Kane Diep, Iris Do and Tony Nguyen from The Preuss School, UCSD; Alex Fialho, Serra High School; Amanda Martinez, San Diego High School of International Studies; Lena Salter, Kearny Educational Complex; and Kassidi Seymour, Pt. Loma High, will each receive a $7,000 college scholarship and a Sony laptop computer. The students, all 11th graders, were selected on the basis of their written applications and interviews, with service and leadership the primary criteria. For more information, click here.
Mission Bay High’s Sequoyah Stonecipher has been named to play in the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic game on Saturday, August 12, at San Diego State’s Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aflac game matches the nation’s best high school juniors in the East vs. West contest. Sequoyah was one of only two players from San Diego to be selected to join the West team. Students, parents, teachers and administrators packed the Spreckels Theatre for the 2006 Innovative Video In Education Festival (iVIE) awards. Student video nominees were showcased earlier at the Del Mar Highlands UltraStar Theaters, in categories ranging from math, science and language arts to documentary, broadcast journalism, and special format videos and public service announcements. Winners include students and teachers from Hardy Elementary, Wilson Middle, Roosevelt Middle, School of Multimedia and Visual Arts at Crawford High, Lewis Middle, Pt.
