Five Area Superintendents Appointed

The Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment of five area superintendents at the June13 board meeting. The appointments are effective July 1 and are part of a district reorganization to improve student achievement and responsiveness to parents, schools and communities.

9.05.06 (September 5, 2006) is the first day of school for students in the fall. From elementary to high schools, students and staff are joining together to help kick-off the district’s 9.05.06 Attendance Awareness Campaign.

After her father was killed in a car accident, Bell Junior High student Lani Ables turned tragedy into triumph with encouragement from her drama teacher Hale Maher.

Troops to Teachers Honors William Jay
It’s been more than 50 years since William Jay first stepped into a San Diego City school. He began kindergarten at Valencia Park Elementary, graduated from Morse High and now he’s back as a second grade teacher at Clay Elementary.

Students at Florence Elementary enjoy batting around a beach ball with the 9.05.06 logo on it during their assembly.

Retirees Deserve Our Thanks


Hundreds of dedicated certificated and classified employees retiring from the district were recognized by the Board of Education on Tuesday, June 13. The following wishes were expressed by Dr. Cohn to the retirees attending the board meeting. The message reflects appreciation for the dedication of all district employees.
