CalPERS Retirement Planning and Resource Fair
The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is conducting a Retirement Planning and Resource Fair to provide members with information needed to plan for retirement. Events will be held Tuesday, June 13, and Wednesday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the CalPERS San Diego Regional Office, 7676 Hazard Center Drive, Suite 350, San Diego, 92108. Chapman University Summer Sessions Offer Visual and Performing Arts Classes
SDCS Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) teachers will conduct teacher trainings for K-12 educators through the Chapman University Summer Sessions. Classes include The Musical Multicultural Classroom: Listen, Sing, Dance and Play the Cross-Cultural Way, Art for Non-Art Teachers, Theatre in the Classroom and “I Can’t Dance!”: Dance and Creative Movement for the Non-Dance Educator. UCSD Summer Science Institutes
The Education Department at UCSD Extension and the California Reading and Literature Project (CRLP) have partnered to present two innovative five day institutes: Teaching Geosciences with Academic Language Tools (grades 3 -8) and Teaching Marine Biology with Academic Language Tools (grades 4 -12). Both institutes will take place in the summer at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. SDSU Offers MA Degree with Special Attention to Science, Learning Technologies and Cross-Cultural Education
San Diego State University is offering an exciting new program designed to support the professional development of K-12 teachers and is also recommended for curriculum developers, administrative leaders and informal science educators. The Masters of Arts Degree with Special Attention to Science, Learning Technologies and Cross-Cultural Education consists of 30 units of coursework, offered during four semesters and one summer session. Project ARK
Homefront America, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring and serving military service members and their families announces the launching of Project ARK (At Risk Kids). The pilot, scheduled to get underway on July 15, is a unique Civic Leadership and Educational pilot program designed to sponsor 20 military dependent children who are suffering from deployment stress and anxiety. The pilot is open to all military dependent children – active duty, guard, and reserve, between the ages of 13 and 16 years. Participants will have the opportunity to fly in a C-17 military cargo transport from March Air Force Base to Honolulu, berth with the Sailors on the Battleship U.S.S. Missouri for a week, and attend a workshop on leadership skills, problem solving, team building and resiliency. For information, visit the Homefront website.
