The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) welcomed twenty-six new NASA Explorer Schools, including Johnson Space Exploration and Technology Magnet School, in a partnership to inspire students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Only two other schools in California were selected this year to participate in the program. (Rosa Parks Elementary was named a NASA Explorer School in 2005.) As an Explorer School, Johnson is eligible to receive up to $17,500 during the three-year partnership to help buy technology tools. The program also provides educators and students with content-specific activities that can be used in many local and state curricula to excite students about science and math. Johnson recently celebrated Space Day as an educational initiative to inspire young people to explore careers in mathematics, science, engineering and technology, and to realize the vision of our space pioneers. The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center participated in the event and the presented the school with a special telescope.
