Sponsors include the University of California at Los Angeles and Berkeley, along with the Commission on Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation and the State Compensation Insurance Fund.  The California Center for Civic participation, experts in the area of youth development and empowerment, will facilitate the Academies. Each Academy will bring together seven teams of high school-aged youth from seven communities in California. Participants will learn about how and why youth are injured at work, their rights on the job, and how youth can have an impact on public policy, at both the local and state level. As a first step, each team will plan a local action to promote teen worker safety during May 2006, "Safe Jobs for Youth month."
