Two 9th grade students from the School of Business at the San Diego High EducationalComplex, along with their physics teacher Vence Donlan, recently took a field trip to the U.S.S. Midway Museum. Donlan is a former Navy pilot/officer who had more than 200 “traps” on the deck of the Midway before it was decommissioned. The field trip was centered on learning about the physics involved in the catapult/retire systems aboard the carrier, and helped the students to contextualize the practical applications of Newton’s Laws. According to School of Business Principal Joe Austin, “The school is in the midst of developing a Partnership in Education with the U.S.S. Midway Museum. This was the first of many field trips aboard the carrier.”
