CSA Has Heart! for 50 Years
For 50 years, the Community Service Association (CSA) has been supporting the San Diego community through charitable contributions. CSA is a non-profit association organized to solicit contributions from district employees for recognized charitable agencies in San Diego. Its mission is to provide financial contributions to charitable organizations that support educational, health, and human services. In addition, CSA supports the arts, research projects and literary projects.

Since the association's inception in 1956, CSA members have donated more than $10,474,100 to support local charities. The CSA Board of Directors is comprised of representatives from certificated, classified and administrator employees. During the month of November, CSA is recruiting new members for the current school year. Joining CSA is a fast and convenient way to make charitable contributions to the local community. Members may donate through payroll deductions or with a one-time cash gift. All donations are tax deductible!

CSA assists more than 150 agencies through yearly grants. Charities supported through grants have included St. Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army, Boys and Girls Clubs, several YMCA branches, Elementary Institute of Science, the Children's Museum, the Maritime Museum, California Ballet, the Burn Institute, AVID, the Links, and two CSA Scholarships through the San Diego Education Fund Future Teacher Program. Employees can designate a specific agency to receive their donations.

“Your contributions help our dedicated staff provide mental health, educational and social services for children and their families, so that they may overcome the behavioral and emotional issues they face each day.” – San Diego Center for Children

Make a difference in the lives of SDUSD students, their families and fellow employees who may need the services of agencies supported by CSA. For more information, contact Mary Bartholomew, Membership Secretary, at (619) 465-2210, or visit the CSA website.

Board of Education Vice President Mitz Lee (L) and Superintendent Carl Cohn (C) joined CSA Chairperson Leslie Paculba (R) at the organization’s 2006-07 Membership Campaign Kick-Off Meeting held October 30.
