Ericson Elementary Takes a Trip to Chuck E. Cheese's and Sends Art to Japan
On Thursday, November 11, 2004, Ericson families enjoyed a PTA fundraising evening at Mira Mesa's Chuck E. Cheese's. Students who were present at school on the day before Veteran's Day received a sticker good for 10 free tokens for games. Parents enjoyed themselves too. Kay, the mother of an Ericson fourth grader, said, "This is just such a great idea because it gets the whole family out of the house. The kids have a great time and I get a break from making dinner. I'll definitely be at the next one!" The PTA at Ericson Elementary provides a number of family oriented activities for their community.

The Ericson art program is also up to great things. Several students in Grades K-2 have been selected to have their artistic masterpieces submitted to the 35th International Children's Art Exhibition. The entries will be sent to Japan for judging and the pieces will become a part of a number of international exhibits.
Schools Celebrate Ribbon-cutting Ceremonies
Before the Winter Break, several schools held ribbon-cutting ceremonies to dedicate new Proposition MM libraries. Lewis Middle School welcomed guests into the new library with Lewis' well-respected jazz band. The children of the school's namesake, Harvey Lewis, attended the event. Another special guest was the school's first principal, Ralph Patrick, who opened the Lewis Middle School when Dr. Bobbi Forcier (current principal) was a student.

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Lafayette Elementary's new library, Principal Heidi Eastcott recognized the winners of Summer Reader Achievers and essay contests. Students ended the ceremony by singing -- and signing (sign language)-- Lafayette's school spirit song.

At Knox Elementary, the new Proposition MM library was completed three months ahead of schedule! The students were treated to a visit by their new Board member, Shelia Jackson.
Colonial Wax Actors from Hickman Elementary
On January 18 and 20, fifth graders from Hickman Elementary School (Room B6) performed as historical wax actors. After researching a character from Colonial American History, students assumed the role of that character and dressed up in traditional colonial garb. When activated, students sprang to life, ready to tell their life story and enumerate their important historical contributions.
