Posting for Teaching Opportunities at Year-Round Summer School Ends Today

Wilson Middle School is hosting the Year-Round Summer School Program for eighth grade students recommended for retention. The session will be held July 22 through August 15. The opportunity for qualified certificated employees to apply is currently available online in the Quick Links section on the Employment website. The application deadline is today. IMC/TMC Weekend Hours Begin July 7

Beginning Monday, July 7, the Instructional Media Center (IMC) and Teachers’ Media Center (TMC) will be open on weekends. Weekend hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Weekday hours will be Monday-Thursday, from 2-6 p.m. Both centers will be closed on Fridays. Employees are encouraged to take advantage of the weekend hours. More than 500,000 instructional items including books, exhibits, CD-ROMs, videos, and equipment are available. Saturday, August 23 will be the first day that materials can be checked out for the new school year. For information, call the circulation desk at (858) 496-8340, Monday-Friday, from 2-6 p.m. 

Recognize Excellence
  • 2009 School Counselor of the Year Nominations
    Nominations are now being accepted for the American School Counselor Association School Counselor of the Year program. This program honors the best of the best -- school counselors who are running a top-notch, comprehensive school counseling program at either the elementary, middle or high school level.  Online nominations for the 2009 award are being accepted now through September 5, 2008.
  • Governor’s Spotlight Awards
    The California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports Spotlight Awards presented by the Anthem Blue Cross Foundation honors individuals, organizations and events that positively impact the physical activity and fitness levels of California’s children and youth. Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000. Spotlight Award nomination forms are available on-line at www.CalGovCouncil.org/spotlight. Individuals may nominate themselves or be nominated by others. All nominations must be submitted by Monday, June 30.
  • Teachers Make a Difference Awards
    The County Office of Education and KPRI 102.1 FM have joined forces to honor San Diego teachers with a special Teachers Make a Difference Award. The award honors K-6 teachers who ignite a love of learning and enrich the lives of children. Award Recipients will be chosen monthly and Nominations are due by May 8, 2009.

  • Discover Program Summer Classes

  • Educational Technology Summer Classes
    Registration is underway for Ed Tech summer classes, which start July 7. Courses include Moodle, Using Video, Google Collaborative Tools, Using Digital Images and PowerPoint. Sign up online at http://www.edtech.sandi.net/summer08 .The last day to register is Monday, June 30.

  • New Elementary Science Program
    Beginning June 12, the Science Department will be conducting trainings on the new K-5 Earth Science  Adobe PDF curriculum. This professional development experience is geared to support teachers in planning for science in the fall. All K-5 teachers and administrators are encouraged to attend. Support the Adapted Physical Education Department

The theme of this free conference is “Students Achieving and Succeeding” and its purpose is to help parents and students activate their knowledge, skills, and resources to work together to achieve and succeed.
