Last Day of School

Today marks the last day of school for students on traditional calendar. Congratulations to the Class of 2008. The last day of school on year-round calendar is Monday, July 21.

2008-09 Monthly Wall Calendar Now Posted

Employee Communications Survey

The Communications Department is conducting an Employee Communications Survey to get feedback on the district’s efforts to keep employees informed. The survey will provide feedback needed to tailor future internal communications initiatives that best meet staff needs. Please take a few minutes to complete the Employee Communications Survey and submit to the Communications Department. You comments are encouraged. Teaching Opportunities for YR Summer School Posted through June 23

Wilson Middle School is hosting the Year-Round Summer School Program for eighth grade students recommended for retention. The session will be held July 22 through August 15. The opportunity for qualified certificated employees to apply is currently available online in the Quick Links section on the Employment website. The application deadline is Monday, June 23. IMC/TMC Weekend Hours Begin July 7

Beginning Monday, July 7, the Instructional Media Center (IMC) and Teachers’ Media Center (TMC) will be open on weekends. Weekend hours are Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Weekday hours will be Monday-Thursday, from 2-6 p.m. Both centers will be closed on Fridays. Staff is encouraged to take advantage of the weekend hours. More than 500,000 instructional items including books, exhibits, CD-ROMs, videos, and equipment are available. Saturday, August 23 will be the first day that materials can be checked out for the new school year. For information, call the circulation desk at (858) 496-8340, Monday-Friday, from 2-6 p.m. 

2008-09 School Boundaries Now Available Online

The new school boundaries for 2008-09 are now available on the School Finder site. Users can enter an address and determine the associated neighborhood schools for the new school year. For information, contact Roy MacPhail at rmacphail@sandi.net or (619) 725-7370.

Newly Adopted Instructional Materials

The new, recently-adopted instructional materials in college, career & technical education; English language arts; history/social science; language acquisition/world languages; mathematics;  science; special education; and visual and performing arts are listed in the 2008-09 Textbook Adoption Fact Sheet Adobe PDF . New materials can also be reviewed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday – Friday, at the IMC. Resources for Construction Technology, Human Psychology & Family Sociology; English 1-4 and 3-4 Adv; U.S. History AP,  U.S. History and Geography 1,2 (incl. Williams Legislation: Sufficiency of Instructional Materials

As school sites close out the 2007-08 school year and prepare for 2008-09, remember that in early September it will be necessary to certify sufficiency of instructional materials for 2008-09. The Education Code Section 60119 defines “sufficient textbooks or instructional materials” as each student, including English learners, having a textbook or instructional materials, or both, in English Language Arts, Science, History/Social Science, Mathematics, and for grades 6-12 World Language and Health, to use in class and to take home. To help with planning, a list of current, adopted materials can be found on the Instructional Materials Department website under Forms/References>K-6 Elementary and Grades 6-12 Secondary Textbook Ordering Workshop Packets>Adopted Titles.   • Service-Learning Discover Course for Educators
    Volunteer San Diego is offering a full-day Engaging Students in Service: The Comprehensive Service-Learning Training on Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, July 30, from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course can be taken as a Discover Course for .5 district credit. Principals, teachers, staff and parents are encouraged to attend. The registration fee is $50.   • Educational Technology Summer Classes

  • New Elementary Science Program
    Beginning June 12, the Science Department will be conducting trainings on the new K-5 Earth Science  Adobe PDF  curriculum. Ties for Teens Project

Wondering what to do with the extra neckties hanging in your closet?  Donate them to the "Ties for Teens" project aimed at assisting teens dress appropriately for job interviews. San Diego Unified is partnering with several community organizations to promote positive activities for youth during the summer, including helping find employment through a Youth Job Fair being held Thursday, June 26, from 4-7 p.m., at the South Metro Career Center.
