2008 Pulitzer Prize Winner Coming to San Diego Unified |
Daniel Walker Howe, recipient of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in History, will lead a discussion with San Diego teachers on August 28 about his book, What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848. Details about this event will be forthcoming. Howe has also agreed to appear at a public event for students and the community on that day. Participating teachers will receive standards-based lesson plans developed by the History/Social Studies Department. Show Me the Money |
The Office of Resource Development maintains a list of current grant and school fundraising opportunities. The office also offers free grant writing workshops at school and work sites. Workshops cover district procedures for outside funding applications as well as basic grant writing tips and hints. - Discover Program June Offerings
Registrations are being accepted for Discover Program courses being held in June, including Educational Psychology - Part 1, Basic Life Support CPR and First Aid, and Seminar and Readings in Gifted Education: "Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Students.” Register early as classes are held based on number of registrations. - Educational Technology Summer Classes

New Elementary Science Program
The Science Department is hosting a series of informational meetings for teachers and administrators to introduce the new 2008-09 elementary science program. Topics include the new FOSS curriculum, units of study, kit rotation schedule and professional development schedule. Ten meetings are scheduled throughout the district. Study Abroad in Summer 2009
Applications are now being accepted for the Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad Program, which provides opportunities for overseas experience in non-western European countries. Seminars are designed to provide a broad and introductory cultural orientation to a particular country (ies). There are nine seminars being offered for summer 2009 with 16 positions per seminar, subject to the availability of funds. Seminars take place from late-June to mid-August. Public Hearings on Women and Girls Issues |
The California Commission on the Status of Women will hold three public hearings to learn what issues women and girls are facing and what role the state can play in addressing them.
