Educational Technology Summer Classes Registration is underway for Ed Tech summer classes, which start July 7. Courses include Videos, Google Collaborative Tools, Using Digital Images and PowerPoint. New Elementary Science Program The Science Department is hosting a series of informational meetings
for teachers and administrators to introduce the new 2008-09 elementary science program. Topics include the new FOSS curriculum, units of study, kit rotation schedule and professional development schedule. Ten meetings are scheduled throughout the district. SAVY Leader Applications Now Being Accepted Do you know a high school student interested in making a difference in the community? If so, applications and nominations are now being accepted for the 2008-09 Students Actively Volunteering for You (SAVY) Leaders program. High school students interested in volunteer service and developing projects that create positive change in their community should apply. The application deadline is Thursday, June 12. Free Educational Conference for Grades 6-12 Students + Families The Ballard Parent Center announces a free educational conference
for parents and students (grades 6-12) at the University of California, San Diego on Saturday May 31. Presentations will be held in English and Spanish and will provide information about UC San Diego and its many opportunities. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Transportation for this event will be available from different locations throughout San Diego County. Academic Success Parent Classes
The Ballard Parent Center is offering the final free evening parent class for this school year on May 22, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., at the Tubman-Chavez Multicultural Center. Gifted and Talented Education Showcase
The first San Diego Unified GATE Seminar Showcase will be held Thursday, May 29, from 5-7 p.m, at the Ballard Parent Center in Old Town. Individual schools and school clusters will display the uniqueness and strength of their GATE Seminar programs. All district employees, parents, students and community members are invited to attend. Young Artists Exhibit Students from each of San Diego High’s six small schools will have art on display through May 26 at Gallery 21 in the Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park.
