Thanksgiving Break Closures
|

School sites will be closed next week, November 19 – 23, for Thanksgiving Break. The Instructional Media Center (IMC)
and the Teacher's Media Center (TMC) will also be closed next week. Both centers will be open Saturday, November 17,
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Central offices will remain open November 19 – 21 and close on November 22 – 23. Have a safe and
restful holiday.

California School Psychology Week
|
| November 12 - 16 is designated California School Psychology Week. Please take this
opportunity to thank our school psychologists who work closely with students, teachers and parents regarding
assessment of learning challenges as well as assist with Zero Tolerance cases and crisis intervention.

Last Chance to Attend Mandatory Purchase Card Training
|
| The final mandatory training sessions on the district’s new online purchase card program
with Wells Fargo Bank are scheduled for Friday, November 16; Thursday, November 29; and Friday, November 30; from 3
to 5 p.m., in the Education Center Auditorium. Additional training sessions will not be scheduled until after January
11, 2008. Any current procurement card approver or cardholder who has not gone to training should plan to attend in
order to receive a new purchase card and authorization to use the bank’s software program. Current procurement card
accounts will be permanently closed on January 8, 2008. Be sure to bring your current procurement card to the
training. It will be exchanged for a new purchase card from Wells Fargo Bank. For information, contact Julie

School-based Education Foundation Meeting
|
|
The first in a series of meetings for school-based education foundations is scheduled for Thursday, December 6, from 4
to 5:30 p.m., in the Education Center Auditorium. Attorney Jonathan Grissom will present legal issues dealing with

- CSET Prep Courses for January 2008 Exam
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division is offering California Subject Examinations for
Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses for the upcoming January 12, 2008 exam. Classes begin Thursday, November 29. Courses
are available for Single Subject English

Single Subject Science
,
Single Subject Mathematics
,
and Multiple Subjects
.
Courses are free for district employees. The registration form

- CSBA Workshop Focuses on Student Achievement
The California School Boards Association (CSBA) 2007 Annual Education Conference and Trade Show will be held at the San
Diego Convention Center, November 29 - December 1. The pre-conference symposia,
Student Achievement Symposium: Special Education
Foundations, will be held on Wednesday, November 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The goal of this symposium is to
help governance teams, communities and parents gain new perspectives on how to maximize each student’s potential and

Support for Libraries
The Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program
supports projects to develop faculty and library leaders, to recruit and educate the next generation of librarians, and
to conduct research on the library profession. Grant monies range from $50,000 - $1 million.
Application
deadline is Monday, December 17.
The National School Library Media
Program of the Year Award honors school library media programs practicing their commitment to ensure that students
and staff are effective users of ideas and information, as well as exemplifying implementation of Information Power.
Each winning program receives a $10,000 prize.
Application
deadline is Wednesday, January 2, 2008.
