Final Open Enrollment Fair Offers Info, Free Flu Shots
The final Open Enrollment
Information Fair will be held this Friday, November 9, from 7 a.m. to
2:30 p.m., in the Education Center auditorium. Representatives from the district’s medical, dental, vision and life
insurance carriers will be available to answer questions. Free flu shots will be available to active employees from
7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Appropriate enrollment forms must be completed and submitted to the Employee Benefits Operations Office no later
than Friday, November 30. Any changes become effective January 1, 2008. For complete information on Open Enrollment,

Distribution of Federal Impact Aid Survey Cards
Federal Impact Aid survey cards must be distributed to every student enrolled on October 26. Each survey card should
have a note to parents/guardians reminding them that residence information should reflect their actual residence
address as of October 26, 2007. (Locations where families may have been temporarily housed on October 26 due to
fire-related evacuations should not be listed.) The deadline to return completed survey cards to the Federal Impact
Aid Office, Education Center, Room 3244, is Friday, December 14.
2007-08 Attendance Boundaries, School Sites Maps
The Instructional Facilities Planning Department has designed a wall map with the district’s 2007-08 attendance
boundaries and school sites. A PDF version is available at

Every school site and department will receive one map at no cost. Additional maps will be printed for $5 per map if
there is a demand. If a department has not yet picked up a map, come to the Ed Center auditorium on Thursday,
November 8, between 9 - 10 a.m. School sites will receive a map from their area superintendent. For information or

Live Homework Help Provides Free Online Tutoring
Live Homework Help continues to be accessible to district students and schools at no cost through a partnership
with the City of San Diego Public Library and local businesses. The one-to-one online tutoring service is accessible
from any Microsoft Windows based, Internet-enabled computer and is available (in English and Spanish) in mathematics,
science, history, and English. Students can only access Live Homework Help with a City of San Diego library or library

Instructional Materials Adoption Committee Members Needed
Teachers, parents and community
members are invited to help evaluate new materials for adoption. Subjects include:
College, Careers, and Technical Educational - Clothing and Design, Constructional Technology Sr. High, Human Psychology and
Family Sociology, and Photography. English Language Arts - English 1-4 and Advanced English 3, 4. History/Social Science -
U.S. History and Geography, AP U.S. History, Honors U.S. History, AP World History, World History and Geography. Language
Acquisition – High School Level ESL 1-6. World Language – Filipino 1-6 and Honors Japanese 7-8. Mathematics – Algebra

Parent Classes Focus on Academic Success
The Ballard Parent Center and the Center for Parent Involvement in Education will host two Journey to Academic Success

parent classes on Thursdays, November 8 and 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Tubman-Chavez Multicultural
Center. The topics are "Want to Get your Child into College?" and "Make-It/Take-It Math Night." All parents are invited to

Many schools and departments are having events and fundraisers to help with fire relief efforts. If your site is having

New Schedule for School Site Council Training
Sessions of the Building a Cohesive Team have
been rescheduled. The two-hour training will review the role and responsibilities of the principal and the School
Site Council (SSC) in implementing the Single Plan for Student Achievement; provide an overview of parliamentary
procedures and bylaws to ensure effective meeting management; and explain updated categorical budget guidelines.

CSET Prep Courses for January 2008 Exam
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division is offering California Subject Examinations for
Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses for the upcoming January 12, 2008 exam. Classes begin Thursday, November 29. Courses
are available for Single Subject English,
Single Subject Science,
Single Subject Mathematics,
and Multiple Subjects.
Courses are free for district employees. The registration form

Fleet Science Center Hosts Annual Open House for Educators
Educators are invited to tour the Nierman Challenger Learning Center, preview the latest IMAX film, “SEA MONSTERS: A
Prehistoric Adventure”, participate in demonstrations conducted by exhibit interpreters and learn about workshops and
outreach programs offered by the Fleet's education department. This
catered Sneak Preview will be held Thursday,
November 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. Bring a guest and take advantage

The San Diego State University (SDSU) College of Sciences Open House, Inner Space/Outer
