Schools Remain Closed
All district schools and extended day programs will remain closed through the end of this week. OCILE (Balboa Park, Old Town and Camp Palomar) programs will be closed through Friday, November 2. The situation is being closely monitored and schools will re-open when conditions are safe for students and employees. Check e-mail and the district website, www.sandi.net, for additional updates. A telephone hotline number, (619) 725-8140, is available between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., to answer parent and employee questions.
Cancellation of Athletic, School Site Events
Athletic events are canceled through Saturday, October 27. Field trips requiring bus transportation and all other events at school sites, such as Halloween carnivals, will be canceled or postponed until Saturday, November 3. For information, contact your area or associate superintendent.
Limit School Access to 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Only site administrators, such as principals or vice principals, and custodial supervisors or custodial staff, should be on school campuses between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Teachers and other staff members can access sites between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Remember, the After Hour Entry procedure, detailed in Administrative Procedure 5000 Adobe PDF, must be followed when entering a school site:
  1. Call the School Police Dispatch Office at (619) 291-7678 just prior to or immediately upon entry to an office or classroom. Please be patient as there are numerous calls coming in at the same time.
  2. You’ll be asked for your three-digit location number, your name and your access code number given to you by your administrator or supervisor.
  3. The dispatcher will de-activate the alarm for your site.
  4. Just before you leave and lock up, call the dispatch center again so the site alarm can be re-activated.
Site Needs and Assessment Form
Every administrator (or designee) and a custodial staff member must complete a Site Needs and Assessment Form (pdf Adobe PDF | Word doc MS Word) and fax to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) each morning by 8:30 a.m. A copy should also be e-mailed to your area or associate superintendent. Contact your area or associate superintendent with questions.
All Custodial Employees Report to Work Tomorrow
All district custodial employees, day and night shift, are to report to their assigned site at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday October 25. Clean-up of sites needs to be accomplished before instruction can resume. For information, contact Jim Susalla at jsusalla@sandi.net or (858) 627-7218.
Emergency Day Care Available to Employees
Emergency day care is available, depending on demand, for district employees, students and community first responders from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at five Child Development Centers. For information, visit http://sandi.net/news/news_releases/2007/1022_emergency_daycare.html.

School’s Out But Learning Continues
Links to online learning have been posted in the “Quick Links” section of www.sandi.net. Senior district educators have selected a variety of web sites that can help students keep up their studies. ITV Ch. 16 is airing instructional programming for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Programs will be geared to specific subjects each day, with the rigor keyed to grade-level standards.
Employment Application and Testing Information
Due to the fires, all classified and non-certificated management job application filing deadlines will be extended and employment testing dates will be rescheduled. Certificated (teaching positions) and certificated management position applications may still be submitted online. For information, visit the Employment website.
