The district has assumed full responsibility of the ‘6 to 6’ Programs from the city of San Diego. To reflect this
change, the Extended Learning Opportunities Department is sponsoring a contest
to rename the program. All SDUSD employees, students, parents and provider agencies are eligible to enter. The winner
of the contest will receive a “Purple Cow” and pizza party for a school site’s before and after school program. For

Receive a Share of $15 Million Nell Soto Grant
Schools are invited to attend a work session
on how to apply for a Nell Soto/Parent Teacher Involvement Grant on Wednesday, September 12, from 2 to 3 p.m., or 3:30
to 3:30 p.m., at the Ballard Parent Center. Currently, 19 district schools
have received awards ranging from $15,000 to $35,000. The grant application
deadline is Monday, October 15. Work

School Site Council Trainings
The Program Monitoring Department is offering six one-hour School Site Council (SSC) trainings in September. The
training will provide information about implementing Title I mandates as well as tips for holding SSC elections and
increasing parent involvement. Participants will receive materials that can be used at their sites in order to
meet federal and state requirements. Register for any one of the six trainings online at

October and November, a two-hour hands-on training will be offered about the role and responsibilities of School
Site Councils and English Learner Advisory Committees.

Refresher Course on Office Depot Online Ordering
All Office Depot “Approvers” or “Requesters” are invited to attend a refresher course about online ordering.

Encore Trainings for Special Education Providers
September and October courses are now posted in the Training
section of the Encore website. New staff who attended Encore Part 1 will need to complete Encore Part 2 in September

CSET Prep Courses for November Exam
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division will offer California Subject Examinations for
Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses for the upcoming November 3 exam. Classes begin Thursday, October 11. Courses are
available for Single Subject English,
Single Subject Science,
Single Subject Mathematics,
and Multiple Subjects.
Courses are free for district employees; $60 for others. The registration form

Blues SchoolHouse Program is Free to Grades 5-12
The International House of Blues Foundation continues to offer the Blues SchoolHouse program free to SDUSD grades
5-12. Students learn about the music, history and cultural impact of the blues in this standards-based educational
experience. Teachers receive a free Blues SchoolHouse Classroom Guide and workshop designed to supplement their
