The Discover Program is seeking instructors to
teach classes for the Fall Session (Sept.-Dec. 2007). Discover courses offer a variety of
professional development and training opportunities for certificated and classified employees,
including courses that offer district credit for salary advancement credit. Courses provide
opportunities for employees to learn from other practicing professionals. Instructors are paid
$43.43 per hour for teaching time and $29.31 for preparation time spent outside of assigned

Refresher Course on Office Depot Online Ordering
All Office Depot “Approvers” or “Requesters” are invited to attend an upcoming refresher course
about online ordering. Sessions will be held on Fridays, August 31, September 14 and 21, from 2

Summer Commencement Ceremony
SDUSD students who completed high school graduation requirements too late to participate in June graduation
will participate in a formal commencement ceremony on this Friday, August 3, at 2:30 p.m., in Golden Hall.

Farmer’s Market
The DePortola Middle School Foundation is sponsoring a Certified Farmer’s
Market
every Thursday, from 3 to 7 p.m., beginning August 23. Nearly 30 vendors will be selling fresh
fruits, vegetables, flowers, breads and more at the school. For information, call (858) 272-7054.

KUSI-TV weathercaster Renee Kohn
visited Horton Elementary School on July 17. She talked to students and teachers about the school's
year-round focus on physical fitness and videotaped a Public Service Announcement about the
importance of bringing healthy for snacks and class parties. The announcement will air in upcoming
months.
Lincoln High School’s Center for Public Safety (CPS) was the backdrop July 25 for San Diego Mayor
Jerry Sanders’ announcement on crime statistics. The school will house the city's first high school
center for public safety and will prepare students for careers in law enforcement, firefighters,
lifeguards and paramedics. An

in the San Diego Union-Tribune highlighted the report and the opening of Lincoln this fall.
