Classified Employees Week May 20-26
Classified School Employees Week is being celebrated May 20 - 26. The week honors classified employees and their significant contributions to the education, safety, and well-being of our students. It’s a good time to thank classified employees for providing valuable support services that help children succeed in school.

PeopleSoft Financials 8.9 Upgrade is Coming this Fall
Improvements to eProcurement, Travel Expenses, and other tasks in PeopleSoft Financials will be available in fall 2007. (The upgrade will not affect HR tasks.) The Information Technology (I.T.) Department is developing new manuals and interactive tutorials to assist employees when the new application is released. Watch for future announcements about new features and training opportunities. Leadership Forum

Partnerships in Education End-of-Year Survey Now Online
The Partnerships in Education End-of-Year survey is now available online. Principals, directors/program managers and partnership liaisons are asked to complete and submit the survey to the Community Relations Department by Friday, June 1. Community Service/Service-Learning Training for Educators
The Community Relations Department and Volunteer San Diego are offering “Service Learning 101” on Thursday, May 24, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., at the United Way Building, 4699 Murphy Canyon Road. Principals, teachers, staff and parents are invited to attend this “hands-on” training that will explore the elements of creating effective projects that integrate community service with academic learning. Essay Contest Highlights Aviation History
The San Diego wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) is sponsoring a student essay contest Adobe PDF in conjunction with the 13th annual “Wings over Gillespie” Air Show. ReDesign Your School Contest
Target and the American Architectural Foundation are looking for students in grades 9-12 to stimulate new ideas for the design of learning environments and enter the Redesign Your School Contest. Support Adapted P.E. Department
The Adapted Physical Education (P.E.) Department is selling tickets to the La Jolla Festival of the Arts scheduled for the weekend of June 23 & 24. This event raises money to benefit San Diegans with disabilities. Tickets are $10 each and a portion of the proceeds will support the Adapted P.E. program. In The News
KPBS Radio reporter Ana Tintocalis made the rounds to several SDUSD schools last week, sharing their stories with the radio audience. On May 16, she visited Johnson Elementary and stopped by the culinary class at the San Diego High School of Business. The next day, May 17, she paid a visit to Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary.

The San Diego Union-Tribune ran an article in the May 17 edition on the efforts taking place in Pacific Beach schools to adopt the International Baccalaureate program.

SDUSD 2007-08 Elementary Teacher of the Year, Rudy Jimenez Ortiz, was profiled in a story on the Voice of San Diego website.
