Medical Supplies for Disaster Kits
Monies received from the second Emergency Response and Crisis Management (ERCM) grant have been used to purchase additional medical supplies to augment site disaster kits. The medical kits were delivered to school and administrative sites starting Monday, April 9. The kit is in a box with a letter of instructions secured to the outside. For information, contact Lt. Return to Work Program
The SDUSD Return to Work Program Acrobat PDF continues to keep employees working by partnering classified employees with temporary work restrictions (due to a workers’ compensation injury or personal injury) with work sites that can temporarily accommodate the employee. The salary of the employee performing transitional work is paid through a special fund; not the site budget. The program is coordinated by Human Resources in collaboration with Risk Management. CalPERS Retirement Planning Fairs
It’s never too early or too late to think about retirement. Stop by the CalPERS Retirement Planning Fair on Wednesday, June 13, and Thursday, June 14, between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., at the CalPERS San Diego Regional Office, 7676 Hazard Center Drive, Suite 350. K-8 Student Recognition
The Board of Education will recognize outstanding K-8 student achievers and award recipients from traditional school sites at the Student Recognition Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, April 24, at 4 p.m., in the Education Center Auditorium. The board’s recognition of outstanding high school students will be held Tuesday, June 12; recognition of outstanding K-8 students in year round schools will be held Tuesday, July 10. Learn about Grant Opportunities
The Community Relations Department is hosting the final 2006-07 School Foundation meeting on Thursday, April 19, from 4 to 5 p.m., in the Education Center Auditorium. Mariano Diaz, senior vice president for community partnerships at The San Diego Foundation, will be the guest speaker. He will present an overview of The San Diego Foundation and how schools and individuals can access the many available grant opportunities. CSET Prep Courses Scheduled
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division is offering California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses for the May 19, 2007 exam. Classes begin Thursday, April 26. Courses include Single Subject English Acrobat PDF, Single Subject Science Acrobat PDF, Single Subject Mathematics Acrobat PDF and Multiple Subjects Acrobat PDF. Courses are free for district employees; $60 for others. 2nd Annual Florence Elementary Festa
The Florence Elementary School Foundation is hosting the Second Annual Florence Festa (Italian for festival) on Saturday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and enjoy a performance and workshop by the dance group Eveoke, a 45-foot inflatable "Survivor" obstacle course, carnival games, raffle prizes and food. AVID Run/Walk for College Success
Marston Middle School is sponsoring a run/walk fundraiser on Saturday, April 21, at 8:30 a.m., at Clairemont High School. Proceeds will go towards student scholarships, classroom support, field trips to universities and program improvement. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of former Marston student and cancer survivor Christopher Daniels. SDUSD Bus Driver Darrin Harian was featured in the People at Work section of Voice of San Diego on April 2, 2007. After riding the bus himself for seven years, Harian says his job now fulfills a childhood dream of being the bus driver.
