Nominations for K-8 Student Recognition
The Board of Education will recognize outstanding K-8 grade students from traditional school sites on Tuesday, April 24, at 4 p.m. Schools should nominate eligible students and teams who have won first place or sweepstakes awards at the city level or above during the 2006-07 school year. For nomination instructions, see Administrative Circular No. 92 Acrobat PDF . The deadline to submit a nomination form MS Word is Friday, April 13. Please Note: The Student Recognition Ceremony for high school students will be held Tuesday, June 12. The student recognition for K-8 year round students will be held Tuesday, July 10. Earn Free Supplies from Office Depot
Each time qualifying supplies are purchased at an Office Depot retail store with a school’s 5% Back to School ID number, the school will receive a credit of 5% of the qualifying purchases to use for free supplies. The Office Depot cashier can provide a school’s 5% Back to School Program ID number at the point of purchase. CAC Seeks Nominations for Above & Beyond Honors
The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education is looking for district employees, students, parents and community members who have gone Above & Beyond Acrobat PDF in their commitment to improve the quality of educational opportunities for students with special needs. Learn about Grant Opportunities
The Community Relations Department is hosting the final 2006-07 School Foundation meeting on Thursday, April 19, from 4 to 5 p.m., in the Education Center Auditorium. Mariano Diaz, senior vice president for community partnerships at The San Diego Foundation, will be the guest speaker. He will present an overview of The San Diego Foundation and how schools and individuals can access the many available grant opportunities. CSET Prep Courses Scheduled
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division is offering California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses for the May 19, 2007 exam. Classes begin Thursday, April 26. Courses include Single Subject English Acrobat PDF, Single Subject Science Acrobat PDF, Single Subject Mathematics Acrobat PDF and Multiple Subjects Acrobat PDF. Courses are free for district employees; $60 for others. Free Shakespeare Workshop for Teachers
The Shakespeare Association of America and Folger Shakespeare Library will present “Shakespeare Set Free,” Acrobat PDF a free workshop for teachers on Saturday, April 7, from noon to 2:30 p.m., at the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel. Safe School Training at No Cost
The San Diego County Office of Education, County Office of Emergency Service, San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the United States Secret Service have partnered to bring the National Threat Assessment Center Safe School Initiative to San Diego. A free Safe School Initiative Training Acrobat PDF will be held Thursday, April 12, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. The registration deadline is Tuesday April 3. Substitute Teacher Training
The San Diego County Office of Education and the Southern California Teacher Recruitment & Support Center will be conducting a Substitute Teacher Training Program Acrobat PDF on Saturdays, April 14 and 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two-day workshop is designed to enhance instruction and help prepare participants to deal with situations that arise in the classroom. Science Center Needs Student Summer Camp Assistants
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is looking for high school science student volunteers to work as Summer Camp Assistants. Ideal volunteers will be at least 14 years of age, enjoy working with kids and love hands-on science. The application deadline is Friday, April 20. Exploring Race and Privilege from a White Perspective
The City of San Diego, Sempra Energy and Thomas Jefferson School of Law are hosting a special event Acrobat PDF with author Robert Jensen on Wednesday, April 11, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice at the University of San Diego. Jensen teaches courses in media law, ethics and politics at the University of Texas. Deadline for Las Vegas Trip is April 20
The Education Center Building Committee is sponsoring a three-day, two-night trip to Las Vegas from June 3-5. The trip is open to all district employees, their families and friends. Price is $105 per person double or $143 per person single. Price includes transportation in a luxury motor coach and two nights at the Four Queens Hotel. Only 50 seats are available.
