Nominate Your Site Classified Employee of the Year
School sites and district offices are encouraged to
nominate a deserving candidate for the 2007 Classified
Employee of the Year
awards. A nominee must be a classified employee with at least three years of service in a monthly position. The deadline to
submit a nomination petition is Friday, March 2, by 5 p.m.

Summer School Posting Begins January 30
Summer School opportunities for certificated
staff assigned to traditional calendar schools will be posted from Tuesday, January 30, to Friday, March 2, on
the PeopleSoft eRecruit system. Teachers with math, science, English and special education credentials
and experience are especially needed. Administrative

Reminder: Enrollment Options Application Deadline is Wednesday
The 2007-08 Enrollment Options priority application
deadline is this Wednesday, January 31. All Enrollment Options Choice, VEEP, Magnet and Program Improvement School
Choice applications received during the priority period will be on the first wait list released to schools in
mid-March. Parents can submit an application at any district location. For information or an enrollment

Reduced Work Load Program
Administrative Circular 57
provides information about the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) Reduced Workload Program for eligible, interested
certificated staff. Applications and Reduced Work Load calendars for the coming school year must be received in Human

Free Grant Writing Workshop
SDUSD Office of Resource Development and BP are collaborating to sponsor a two-hour
grant writing workshop
for educators interested in applying for special grants offered under the A+ for
Energy
program. The free workshop is being held Tuesday, February 6, from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., at

CSET Prep Courses Scheduled
The district's Teacher Preparation and Student Support Division will offer California Subject Examinations for
Teachers (CSET) Prep Courses to prepare teachers for the March 17, 2007 exam. Classes begin Thursday, February 22.
Courses are available in Single Subject English
, Single Subject Science
, Single Subject Mathematics
, and Multiple Subjects
. Courses are free for district employees; $60 for others. The registration form

CSA
Welcomes 2007 Board Members
The Community Service Association (CSA), the district's employee charitable club,
has announced its 2007 Board of Directors who will oversee the allocation of CSA funds to local nonprofit agencies
throughout San Diego County. Bill Blankartz, special education teacher at Angier Elementary, will serve as CSA
chairperson and Michele Brown, material coordinator with Maintenance and Operations, will serve as vice chairperson.
Art Hanby, director of business support services, and Maureen Nolan, vice principal, Pacific Beach Middle School,
will serve as the administrators’ representatives. Cristina Carroll, teacher, Silver Gate Elementary; Camille Johnson,
teacher, Sunset View Elementary; Barbara Shelosky, speech/language pathologist, Alcott Elementary; and Leslie Paculba,
Marston Middle School head counselor, will serve as the certificated staff representatives. Noel Lyon, construction
crew leader, Maintenance and Operations, and Debbie Zisa, personnel clerk, Human Resources, will serve as
classified employees’ representatives.
Academic
League Moderators Needed
The Academic League is a competition between high schools in which teams answer questions based on various subjects.
Moderators are needed at each match to ask pre-prepared questions and oversee the competition. Matches take place
Thursday evenings, February through April, for approximately two hours. Moderators are paid per match and must be
district employees and provide their own transportation. If interested, contact Rhonda Zawadski at

Dr. Ruby
Cremaschi-Schwimmer Scholarship Fund
Dr. Ruby Cremaschi-Schwimmer (December 27, 1939 – December 30, 2006) was a dedicated educator in San Diego for more
than 30 years. She was principal at Lincoln High School, Muir Alternative, Montgomery Junior High, and Twain High
School. The staff at Twain is honoring this beloved leader by establishing a scholarship in her name. For

The Administrators Association of San Diego City Schools (AASD) Annual Community Leaders Celebration will be held on Thursday, February

Counselors from Hoover High and Pershing Middle schools were featured in an article
that ran in the San Diego Union-Tribune on January 22. The article focused on new state funding that will provide $200
million to public middle and high schools throughout California to hire an additional 3,000 counselors.
