Discover Program Seeking Instructors
Do you have knowledge that you would like to
share with other professionals? The Discover Program is seeking instructors to teach classes to employees. The
Discover Program offers a variety of professional development and training opportunities to both certificated
and classified employees. Courses provide opportunities for teachers to earn district salary enhancement credit.
Instructors are paid $43.43 per hour for teaching time and $29.31 for preparation time spent outside of
assigned workday. If you are interested in teaching a course, contact Esther Caluza at

GATE Department Distinguished Lecture Series
The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Department welcomes all interested individuals to attend the next Distinguished Lecture Series program on Wednesday, January 17, in the Education Center auditorium. Both sessions will be presented by Dr. Carolyn Light. Reservations are not required.

Essay Competition for 4th and 5th Graders The State Bar of California is holding an
essay contest
for 4th and 5th graders. The essay contest asks students to tell why a certain law is useful or not, or to
recommend a new law that affects kids. The top prize is a $250 savings bond. Entry deadline is Thursday,

Blacks In Government Greater San Diego Chapter Scholarship
Blacks in Government, a non-profit organization for federal, state, county and local government employees, is offering a
$500 scholarship to African-American students who reside within the City or County of San Diego and who will be attending
their first year of a four-year college or university in fall 2007. The deadline to file an

School Library Award Program
The Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award for Exemplary Humanities Programming recognizes, promotes and supports
excellence in humanities programming in elementary and middle school libraries that serve children K-8. The winning school

Parent Forum Set for February 7
Parent Voices for Education San Diego (PVSD) presents a Parent Forum (English
| Spanish),
Continuing our Conversation with Superintendent Carl Cohn and Interacting
with the Area Superintendents, on Wednesday, February 7, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Harold J. Ballard Parent. The
forum will include a discussion on the new district leadership structure and how it affects all of us. Child Care will

Dailard Elementary is celebrating its 30th birthday on Friday, March 23, at 5:30 p.m., at the school. Former and current

by the school chorus, speakers, Memory Lane exhibit, giving opportunities to buy books for the library and dinner
