Brief Explanation:

Three years ago, the Standards, Assessment, and Accountability Department launched a Student Achievement Data System. This system enables staff to view and sort student achievement data from standardized tests, district assessments, report cards, and site-based alternative assessments. This system offers significantly greater access to student achievement data than is currently available through AERIES or through SIS Client/Server. Features currently available include:

  • Viewing and printing student rosters with SAT 9, SABE/2, SDRT, CELDT, and MDTP Geometry Readiness Test scores and multiple measures rosters with DRA/SAT 9/Report Card Grades and SDRT/ARI-IRI/SAT 9/Report Card Grades.
  • Viewing and printing test scores by grade level or by classroom.
  • Retrieving test score data by gender, ethnicity, and language proficiency.
  • Filtering test score data by performance level (e.g., selecting students in Quintile 3 on SAT 9 or students significantly below grade level on SDRT).
  • Looking up test score and grade histories for individual students.
  • Entering and retrieving data from site-based assessments.

Attachment 1 illustrates some of the system capabilities.

Access to the Student Achievement Data System
The Student Achievement Data System is accessible via the SIS Client/Server. View screen features are accessed under the Student Guidance menu; reports are accessed under the Reports menu (Category of Assessment). Staff members who have previously attended training and received security clearance continue to have access to the system. Access is granted to new users after attendance at a training session.

Training
For all users other than principals, attendance at a training session is required prior to accessing the data system. Principals are strongly encouraged to attend training as well. It is important that all users learn how to use the system appropriately and understand the security and confidentiality issues associated with accessing individual student data.

New training sessions have been scheduled for October/November 2002. The training schedule is provided in Attachment 2. Reservations are required due to training room capacity limits. Please complete the reservation form (Attachment 2) and return it by September 30, 2002 to Gloria Ustica, Research and Reporting Office, Eugene Brucker Education Center, Room 3107. You will receive a confirmation prior to the training session.

Questions about your reservations should be directed to Gloria Ustica at (619) 725-7188. Questions about the training sessions or computer system configurations should be directed to Karin Alvarado, microcomputer applications training specialist, at (619) 725-7197. General questions may be directed to Peter Bell at (619) 725-7193.
