Brief Explanation:

The Blueprint for Student Success and Title I regulations call for a Home/School Compact to be signed by all parties at the beginning of each school year. The compact reflects the commitment of the home and school to work together to enable each student to achieve district academic and citizenship standards. Through the compact, students, teachers, parents, school administrators, and the district recognize and agree upon their respective roles and responsibilities in the learning process.

Blackline masters of the compact in English and languages other than English will be sent to schools the week of July 8, 2002. The masters will include the signature of the appropriate Board member. Please discard all 2001-02 Home/School Compact materials and duplicate new copies as needed for 2002-03.

The Home/School Compact should be distributed to all students in the fall. Parents should sign and return the signature page, and retain the compact for reference at home. Principals should involve staff and parent groups (e.g., PTA, SSC, ELAC ) in the identification of strategies to help parents understand the importance of the Home/School compact, and to encourage all parents to complete and return the compact for each child.

Please note: You may add to the Home/School Compact but you may not delete or modify existing portions. If you wish to add to the compact, the English version is available in Word 97 for the PC, and in Word 98 and Appleworks (Claris) 5.0 for the Macintosh. Contact Maria Schneider in the Standards, Assessment and Accountability Department (619-725-7166 or mschneid@mail.sandi.net) for the English version on disk or via e-mail. For translation services, contact Gabriel Gonzalez at 858-496-8366. If you add to the compact, you are responsible for obtaining the signature of your board member.

Questions regarding the Home/School Compact should be directed to Mary Engle at 619-725-7182.
