Brief Explanation:

The San Diego County Office of Education will again host the Crosscultural Special Education Conference at the Handlery Hotel on December 8.

This year's conference will include an in-depth focus to literacy development strategies for working with diverse student populations within special education and general education settings to improve academic achievement. Goals include attaining standards and the effective implementation of current accountability systems. The agenda for the conference will address literacy for special education students via workshops, which include:

  • Non-biased assessment/placements
  • CDE program assurance
  • Adapting curriculum
  • Early Intervention/Preschool
  • English Language Development
  • Literacy Development
  • How to set up an effective SST and reduce inappropriate special education referrals
  • Collaboration/Secondary: HAAP/SPED Model
  • Instructional Intervention Strategies for general education teachers working with mild/moderate learning disabled students
