 Brief Explanation:

Attachment 1 - 2000-01 Year-Round Intersession School Sites
Attachment 2 -
Summer School and Intersession Salary Schedule

Intersession programs for 2000-01 school year have been scheduled on the following dates:
January 2 through January 12, and March 26 through April 12, 2001. (See Attachment 1 for schools with exceptions to these dates.)

All certificated assignments will be staffed through the Human Resource Services Division. To apply for a position, teachers must complete and return the intersession applications to Human Resource Services Division, Eugene Brucker Education Center, Room 1241. Applications can be obtained from the school secretary. The principal’s signature is required on the application.

The deadline for submitting applications is November 22, 2000. One application will be sufficient to be considered for teaching assignments for all intersession periods. Late applications will be considered only in areas where a sufficient number of applicants is not available to meet the staffing needs. Unit members may be contacted by phone for employment as late as the onset of the intersession.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an offer of employment. An intersession assignment to a school site is always contingent upon student enrollment. Positions may be cancelled if student enrollments are too low. Offers of intersession employment will be made based on district needs and staffing requirements as described in Article 17 of the negotiated contract between the Board of Education and the San Diego Education Association. Listed below are some general guidelines used in the selection of the intersession staff.

1. Most recent performance evaluation (must be effective in all areas)
2. Grade level, subject, training, recency of experience and credentials
3. Availability to work the entire session
4. District seniority
5. Recency of intersession employment

The intersession program provides for a variety of instructional models.

The elementary intersession provides for eight hours per day of pay (exclusive of a 30-minute duty-free lunch at the conclusion of the instructional day). Instruction will be five hours. Other hours are for school operational duties and include four hours of mandatory professional development per week.

The middle school intersession program will offer several models including being paid for an eight hour day. The assignments offered will be dependent upon the credential needed for the literacy and math courses. Assignments may be structured as follows:

• 3 hours literacy/2 hours math; 4 hours of mandatory professional development per week (8 hours paid per day)
• 2/2 hour math blocks (5.5 hours paid per day)
• 3 hour literacy (4 hours paid per day)
• 2 hours math (3 hours paid per day)

Teachers accepting assignments that are less than eight hours per day are strongly encouraged to participate in professional development which will be paid pro rata. Duty hours for nonclassroom unit members shall be twenty-five (25) hours per week.

Attachment 2 provides a copy of the summer/intersession salary schedule. All year-round schools will participate in an intersession program.
