Brief Explanation:
The College Board offers two workshops in San Diego to assist teachers in
improving their college preparatory courses and help them to start or to
further improve their Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This year the
Advanced Placement workshops will take place on Saturday, November 18, at La
Jolla High School and Saturday, February 3, at Point Loma High School.
Special sessions include the ABC’s of College Counseling, Spanish
Language for Native Speakers, Vertical Teams for English, a session
recommended for middle school teachers focusing on strategies for critical
thinking as preparation for AP classes in high school.
TO REGISTER: Complete the attached form and return to Chris
Dickerson, GATE Department,
Room 226, Dana Center, by October 15 for the La Jolla workshop and
January 5 for the Point Loma workshop. Packets for sessions are
assured only for those who pre-register. Registration fee will be paid only
if you register through the GATE Department. Late or on-site registration
will not be paid by the district.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE THE REGISTRATION FORM ON THE COLLEGE BOARD
INFORMATION FLYER. If you pay directly to College Board, we cannot reimburse
you.
Each teacher should register on a separate form. The AP contact person
may want to collect all registration forms and return them to the GATE
Department.

LOCATIONS: LA JOLLA HIGH SCHOOL, 750 Nautilus Street
Take highway 5 North and exit on Ardath Road, which becomes
Torrey Pines Road. Go left on Girard for one block, right on Pearl
for one block, then left on Fay OR take highway 5 South, exit La
Jolla Village Drive West, take Torrey Pines Road South, and then use
the same directions from Girard. The school is at Fay and Nautilus.
PT. LOMA HIGH SCHOOL, 2335 Chatsworth Boulevard
Take highway 8 West, which becomes the Ocean Beach Freeway, to the end of
the freeway. Turn left and merge onto Nimitz Blvd. from the left lanes.
Proceed on Nimitz to Chatsworth, make a left and continue several blocks to
the top of the hill. The school is on the right.
