Subject: AFTER SCHOOL READING PROGRAM EXTENDED-DAY ASSIGNMENTS
Department and/or
Persons Concerned:
Site Administrators and SDEA Association Representatives
Due Date:  None
Reference: None
Action Requested: Follow procedure outlined below

Brief Explanation:

The District and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA) have reached agreement and developed the following procedure for filling any After School Reading Program extended-day assignments:
  1. The school site determines if there is staff interest in the After School Reading Program extended-day assignments during the first week of the school year.

  2. If no staff interest is expressed, then the After School Reading Program extended-day assignments shall be posted, using a special post, with an expedited timeline.

  3. If there is staff interest in After School Reading Program extended-day assignments, the responses shall be sorted using the following priority order: 1) Permanent teachers; 2) Probationary teachers; and 3) Visiting teachers.

  4. Site administrators would then select from the priority order list.

  5. If all options for offering the After School Reading Program extended-day assignments are exhausted (i.e., no staff interest, no visiting teacher interest, etc.), then retired teachers may be selected.

  6. If a unit member who has been selected for the After School Reading Program extended-day assignment, drops the assignment for any reason, the same priority list may be used to select a replacement.

The parties have agreed that the process for filling the After School Reading Program extended-day assignments can begin as early as the first week of school.
