Effective January 1, 2001, the State Board of Equalization decreased the State of California sales tax rate from 7.25 percent to 7.0 percent. Since the San Diego County sales tax rate is 0.5 percent in addition to the state rate, all taxable purchases or sales made on or after January 1, 2001, should be charged 7.50 percent sales tax. This rate is expected to be effective for one year. The breakdown of the new rate is as follows: State Portion 7.00 Questions concerning this circular should be referred to Sandy Davis, accounts payable supervisor, at (619)725-7756. Questions regarding Associated Student Body sales and use tax reports should be directed to Susan Maracle-Sweeney, financial accountant, at (619) 725-7595. |
