Brief Explanation:

Eligible employees who wish to participate in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Plan for the calendar year 2001 must take action during the month of November 2000.

An FSA Plan is made possible by Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code which enables employees to set aside pre-tax money from their paychecks to pay for:

    • Out-of-pocket health care expenses
    • Dependent child/elder day care expenses

Enrollment in a Flexible Spending Account is never automatic. (Employees who participated during 2000, must reenroll if participation is desired for 2001.) The enrollment/election form is the last page of this packet. It must be received in the Employee Benefits Unit no later than November 30, 2000.

The enrollment material and election form may be accessed via the Employee Benefits web site www.sandi.net/benefits during the open enrollment period. You can also use the new on-line benefits enrollment system to enroll in an FSA Plan. A confidential Personal Identification Number (PIN) issued by VEBA, (619) 682-4390, will be required to enroll on-line.

The material available on the Benefits web provides detailed information about the FSA Plan. It should be studied very carefully. If additional information is needed, you may call TRI-AD, the plan administrator, at 1-800-923-7327.
