Below is a listing of the preretirement workshops that will be available to members of the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) during the 2000-01 school year. No appointment is required to attend these workshops. Workshops will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Eugene Brucker Education Center on the following dates: November 1, 2000 Large Group STRS Workshops (limited to 25) are available at the County Department of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Road, San Diego, CA 92111, (858) 292-3565. All workshops are located in the Technology Center. The goal of large group workshops is to provide an overview of CalSTRS benefits available to members, including two retirement allowance projections of their choice. STRS members who are not retiring in the current school year are encouraged to choose a large group workshop. Large group workshops are scheduled for the following dates: 4:30-7:30 p.m. 8:30 a.m.-12 noon 4:30-7:30 p.m. Additionally, two financial preretirement workshops have been scheduled for March 24, 2001, and May 5, 2001, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon located in the Technology Center, at the County Department of Education. In addition to group workshops, individual counseling for members planning to retire in the current year is available at the County Department of Education. An appointment may be scheduled by calling (858) 292-3565. Please note that it is necessary to allow several weeks between scheduling an appointment and the actual interview in order for information to be obtained from STRS in Sacramento. During the scheduled interview, a STRS counselor will provide you with an estimate of your retirement benefits. STRS also makes available to members a series of prerecorded messages about retirement benefits and procedures. These messages, known as Teletalk, may be accessed through touch-tone telephones on a 24-hour basis by calling 1-800-222-8844. Special situations may be discussed with a counselor in Sacramento by calling 1-800-228-5453. In addition, members are invited to visit the STRS website at www.calstrs.ca.gov at any time in order to obtain important information concerning their retirement benefits.Attendance for retirement counseling is voluntary, and employees who wish to attend must make arrangements with their supervisor if release time is needed. |
