Brief Explanation:

San Diego City Schools is pleased to announce that beginning November 1, 2000, employees will be able to access an On-Line Benefits Information and Enrollment (OBIE) system via the district's web page. Implementation of OBIE will coincide with the annual open enrollment period for medical/dental plan changes and for enrollment in the Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) plan for 2001.

Employees re invited to visit OBIE to view information regarding all of the benefits plans available to eligible employees. The web site is www.sandi.net/benefits. General information is available on OBIE without the need of a Personal Information Number (PIN) and password; however, for security purposes, a system-generated PIN and an employee-set password will be required for an employee to access his/her own personal enrollment record and to electronically submit enrollment changes.

How to obtain a PIN and password:

  1. Access the district's web page www.sandi.net/benefits.
  2. From the menu select "Employee Benefits Information and Enrollment (OBIE).
  3. From the next menu, select "How to Obtain a PIN and Password."
  4. Complete the on-line request form.
  5. After completion, click the "Submit" button.
  6. A permanent PIN number and a temporary password will be mailed to your home address of record in approximately five business days.
  7. After receiving this information, access OBIE as above and enter the assigned PIN number and temporary password. You will then be instructed to and will set your own permanent password.
  8. You may now review your current enrollment record and electronically submit any changes you wish to make for this open enrollment period.

The OBIE system will continue to be available 24 hours a day even after the open enrollment period closes on November 30, 2000. Throughout the year, employees will find OBIE convenient for many purposes such as the following:

  • Changing primary care physicians.
  • Adding newly eligible dependents (with 31 days of marriage or 31 days of birth or adoption of a child) or deleting dependents no longer eligible for coverage.
  • Filing full-time student declaration forms electronically.
  • Obtaining information regarding benefits continuation programs available to employees or dependents who become ineligible for district coverage, i.e., terminating employees, employees taking an unpaid leave of absence, a dependent who is no longer eligible, etc.

If you have any questions, please contact the Employee Benefits Unit located in Room 1150 at the Eugene Brucker Education Center. The telephone number is (619) 725-8130, Option 6.
