Brief Explanation:

The CHILDREN’S WALK FOR PEACE, sponsored by San Diego International Sister Cities Corporation (SDISCC), highlights the United Nations International Year for the Culture of Peace. The co-chairs for this exciting event are the Honorable Susan Golding, Mayor of San Diego, and the Honorable Francisco A.Vega de Lamadrid, Mayor of Tijuana. INTERNATIONAL FAMILY FUN DAY is sponsored by the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department and the Balboa Park Recreation Council.

This walk highlights the United Nations International Year for the Culture of Peace and benefits the SDISCC’s Sister Schools Program, a partnership with San Diego City Schools that promotes literacy and cultural understanding and bridges the digital divide by linking classrooms in San Diego City Schools to classrooms around the globe. The SDISCC’s Sister Schools Program is open to all schools in the San Diego Unified School District.

When: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2000, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Where: Balboa Park – Pan American Plaza

The 5K Run/Walk starts at 8:00 a.m. The Children’s Walks start at 8:30 a.m. During the walk and throughout the day, Balboa Park will come alive with children performing dance routines and music, puppet shows, a musical petting zoo, art activities, funky hats, face painting, an activity zone, displays, booths, drawings, prizes, live music, an international food court and much more.

Registration: Pre-registration is by mail and on line at http://www.active.com or http://www.sandiegosistercities.org/cwfp. Day-of-race registration begins at 6:30 a.m. in Balboa Park – Pan American Plaza.

Entry Fee: Entry fee is FREE for children and students. Adults suggested donation is $5.00.
