National Board Certification

National Board Certification is a voluntary, yearlong, assessment process through which teachers can measure their own practice against nationally established standards for accomplished teaching. The superintendent and members of the Board of Education are in strong support of teachers who wish to pursue certification. As a result, a comprehensive system of support is available to encourage teachers to participate:

  • Payment of $2,000 of the $2,300 application fee (requires attendance at a 4-hour orientation on May 19, June 2, or July 14);
  • Three release days to work on portfolio entries;
  • Up to $400 in videotaping services; and
  • Monthly support meetings and professional development.

To learn about the National Board Certification process, the district's support program, and requirements for receiving district support, teachers are invited to an information meeting on one of the following dates:
